Craps Glossary Part 2 (How Craps Works & How to Play)

CORNER RED  The betting areas on the original standard "Las Vegas Craps" table depicting #6 & #8 located on the outer corners of the craps layout towards the players. These are contests in which craps players can wage bets "FOR" either, or both, #6 or #8 to appear on a roll before #7 can appear. These wagers pay only "even-money," although, the bets are 6 to 5 in the casinos’ favor. These bets may be retrieved by the bettor at any time before their decision roll. All bets LOSE simultaneously when #7 appears and WIN individually as separate wagers "FOR" the individual numbers.

DECISION ROLL  The conclusive roll of the craps dice that determines the wager’s outcome.

DON'T COME (SECTION)  This is the area of the craps layout in which NONLINE SUBGAME-CRAPS wagers "FOR" the group of natural numbers 2, 3 & 12 ("AGAINST" the group of natural numbers 7 & 11) are waged.

DON'T COME BET  This is a NONLINE SUBGAME-CRAPS wager "FOR" the group of natural numbers 2, 3 & 12 and "AGAINST" the group of natural numbers 7 & 11.

DON'T PASS (LINE)  This is the BACK LINE in which LINE SUBGAME-CRAPS contest wagers "FOR" the group of natural numbers 2, 3 & 12 ("AGAINST" the group of natural numbers 7 & 11) are deposited. The BACK LINE also serves alternately as the section used for depositing LINE POINT GAME "ODDS" bets and "LAY" bets "FOR" #7 and "AGAINST" the neutral number to which the LINES are assigned during the LINE POINT GAME.

DON'T PASS (LINE) BET  1. During a LINE POINT GAME, this is a wager "FOR" #7 and "AGAINST" the POINT (the neutral number assigned to the LINES).  2. During a LINE SUBGAME-CRAPS contest, this is a wager "FOR" natural numbers 2, 3 &12 and "AGAINST" natural numbers 7 & 11.

EVEN-MONEY  Pay out amount that is only equal to the amount in the winning wager in casino games.

"FLAT" BET  The mandatory portion of an optional two-part wager which is either "FOR" a roll of a neutral number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) to appear on the dice before #7 rolls, or, it may be a wager "FOR" #7 to appear before the roll of a neutral number. The "FLAT" bet "FOR" a neutral number to roll before #7 is a "DO" CONTRACT "FLAT" bet, and a "FLAT" bet "FOR" #7 to roll before a neutral number is a "DON’T" NONcontract "FLAT" bet. These winning bets are paid only "even-money" in the overall game of craps.

LAS VEGAS CRAPS (BANK CRAPS)  The variant of "Craps" most played in Nevada casinos. A special table and craps layout are used, and all bets are made against the house. A bettor signifies a bet by placing "chips," "checks," or cash, on the appropriate part of the craps layout before any roll. It is invariably required that the dice be thrown to strike a wall of the craps table and bounce back.

LAST COME BET  This is a phrase that identifies all wagers that were "FOR" natural numbers 7 & 11 in the "last" NONLINE SUBGAME-CRAPS contest preceding the next SUBGAME-CRAPS contest that will occur on the following roll of the dice.

LAY BET  This is a "DON’T" bet waged "FOR" #7 and "AGAINST" any individual neutral numbers (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10). Casinos pay out 5:6 on these winning bets "AGAINST" #6 or #8; 4:6 on winning bets "AGAINST" #5 or #9; 3:6 on winning bets "AGAINST" #4 or #10. There is a 5% fee on these bets in the overall game of craps. The charge (vigorish) is 5% of the winning amount.

LAYING ODDS  This term describes the process of adding the "ODDS" bet that accompanies a NONcontract "FLAT" bet. "ODDS" bets that accompany winning NONcontract "FLAT" bets ALWAYS get paid LESS than even-money in the overall game of craps.

LINE BET  This term describes all bets that can be deposited on the LINES. All LINE SUBGAME-CRAPS wagers and all LINE POINT GAME wagers are "LINE BETS."
